ROMANS 4:18-25
ROMANS 4:19-21 ” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had the power to do what He had promised.”
I love this passage in Romans. Abraham did not pretend that he and Sarah were too old to bear a child. He faced the facts and knew that only God had the power to do the seemingly impossible. So often we tend to look at the facts and at our circumstances and not to whom God is and what He says He can do.
Many years ago my husband and I had been given a promise that we would be able to purchase our own home. Finally, the time came, and we put in an offer for a beautiful garden flat in a quiet area. At that time in Zimbabwe, bonds were extremely difficult to come by and took ages to process because of the economy. The owner of the flat signed the agreement pending the bond money coming through and gave us a year’s deadline. Alas to my dismay the bond still did not come through during that year, and the agreement was cancelled! I remember being so upset and angry!
Two years later we bought a beautiful and bigger house in the same area at a much more reasonable price! I had to repent and confess my lack of faith at doubting Him. God indeed knew what was best for us and had kept His promise to us!
Lord, please help me to focus on you and who you say you are, instead of concentrating on my issues and circumstances. You are a powerful and faithful God.
